Best Pre-Wedding Skincare Plan for Brides in 2021

The best pre-wedding skincare plan for brides can be found in the following post.

As a wedding hair and makeup artist in southern California, I have a vested interest in proper bridal skin care.   When a bride has smooth, radiant skin on her big day, it dovetails beautifully with the makeup application to create flawless, luminous wedding day beauty.

I have covered this topic before, but because I am so passionate about it I felt it deserved more blog time.

This time around I reached out to a skincare professional to get her top tips to ensure that your wedding day skin is in tip top, perfect shape!

After all, who is better than an aesthetician to guide you to glowing bridal skin?

I asked Los Angeles based celebrity makeup artist, aesthetician, and lash artist Mara Levarre to share her top skincare tips for brides to be.

Read on to find out Mara’s best pre-wedding skincare plan for brides in 2021!

1. Manage stress

Stress can aggravate inflammatory skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and keratosis pilaris. As stress weakens the immune system, chronic inflammation worsens.

Excess anxiety can also disturb sleep which can lead to a grey, dull complexion.

Scheduling yoga, meditation and regular exercise helps to relieve stress and promotes healthy blood flow.

2. Schedule an appointment with a dermatologist

A dermatologist can realistically assess your skin and help you devise a strategy for achieving your goals.

Some intensive treatments require more time to heal, or in the case of fillers and Botox, need some time to settle in to look more natural.

Start this journey a year out from your wedding date.

3. Schedule regular facials with an aesthetician.

Find a reputable aesthetician in your neighborhood to help you get your skin in tip-top shape for the big day.

You want someone who is a good listener, is within your budget, and helps you set up a good homecare routine.

Don’t go overboard with treatments or go to a new aesthetician in the weeks before the wedding. Flare-ups post facial can happen, so start seeing someone 6-9 months out from your wedding date.

4. Exfoliate and Use a Brightening serum

As dead cells accumulate on the skin, they interfere with light reflection giving it a dull appearance. Regular exfoliation paired with a brightening serum gives you the best lit-from-within glow on your wedding day.

Regular exfoliation removes dead cells to improve radiance and can enhance the absorption of skin brightening products through the skin. Start once per week initially, and advance to twice per week after a month or so if you can tolerate it.

If your skin is sensitive, start with a gentle papaya or lactic acid serum instead of a granular scrub. Your esthetician will be able to recommend products suitable for your skin type.

Start this routine 5 months out.

5. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Soft, supple skin is every bride’s dream, and keeping your skin and body hydrated is the first step to achieving that glow. Topically you can add a serum with peptides or hyaluronic acid to plump and rehydrate your skin.

Internally you can drink water infused with electrolytes or take a hyaluronic acid supplement to boost hydration levels.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine which dehydrate the skin and cause broken capillaries. Drinking green juice is also great for skin because it’s oxygenating and contains vital minerals to help stimulate the lymphatic system and drain out puffiness.

Create this habit one month out from the wedding.

6. Avoid the sun!

Skip the potential redness, uneven color and future sun damage to the skin.

Book a spray tan at your dress fitting to assess the right shade and get a refresh 2 days before the wedding. Or have your makeup artist fake a tan with sweat resistant makeup or bronzer on the day.

I think these are wonderful tips, and pretty much sum up everything a bride-to-be needs to know to prepare her skin for a gorgeous glow on her big day.
